Joining Amanda

Attended a very sweet kids birthday party with my younger son.
Threw our new boomerang purchased from scout camp with the elder son.
Lost said boomerang in the woods and brush by the schools.
Husband found the boomerang and we all threw boomerang together!
Sipped cold wine after the kiddos went to bed.
Watched a lot of Olympics.
Ate a lot of fast food.
Signed up for Weight Watchers; we will see.
Weeded the front garden bed.
Accompanied a wonderful friend while she made on offer on a new home, signifying the beginning of a new life for her.

I am at this party right now...

Amazing!!! I am loving this Alice in Wonderland party! The kiddos are sweet as the treats and decor too!

Scout camp

A few pics from our week. I loved every minute of it and definitely foresee a lot of participation in these activities in future!

Scout camp, and thoughts on motherhood

I was having an awesome time being a walker at scout camp this week. I love being outdoors, working with the boys, and being involved with the BSA. It's been great. I don't even mind having to be there every day, which they require for the tiger cubs. In fact I'll probably walk every day next year too.

Then Nate threw up in the car on the way to camp today. Ugh. We dropped off his brother and came home, and I started to resume my normal morning. Then I realized something: I'm depressed.

I couldn't put my finger on it at first. I was more upset than the boy. But then I realized that I love being busy, I love being outdoors, and I love being around people. Especially the great folks I meet in scouting. When I sit in my house I get none of that. And yes I have a lot to do around here, but in recent months I've pretty much blown it all off, spending my days online instead. Something subtle is happening in our family, the almost imperceptible growth of my boys. They still need me, but not nearly as much. The truth is, I need to find something to do.

Now, I don't want to go back to the 8-5 thing. This week, while awesome, is also exhausting. We all arrive home grouchy at 6pm and nobody wants to cook dinner and we bicker until we fall into bed at nine. Plus the house is kind of a wreck, which I'm not totally used to either. However I have talents like everyone else and it's time to dust them off!

It's tempting to just throw myself into the kids' activities. While I have no intention of easing up in my involvement, I also see the pitfall: what do you do when your kid no longer wants to do that activity? If all your friends are baseball moms or you are passionate about being the den leader, that will makes lot of friction when your kid wants to do something new. It's a lot to think about.

Anyway, my little guy is on the couch sipping 7-up and watching something about rockets. I leave you with the little sunfish he caught yesterday :-)

A trip to Cincinnati mainly as a birthday gift to Zack to see the Reds.
They were kind enough to beat the Brewers 3-1.
Stayed the night downtown and visited Fountain Square.
Visited my high school BFF and her parents and it just felt like home.
Finished the weekend with our first trip to Ikea---yes we ate some meatballs.
And got me a beautiful glass front bookcase which is the inspiration to get my art room in order, finally.
Can't remember the last time I laughed and smiled as much as I did this weekend.
Linking with Amanda.

The "world series"

My guy's team won the FINAL! I couldn't be happier for those boys. These coaches proved their commitment to doing it the right way could win a championship: hard work, developing every boy regardless of skill level, drilling fundamentals and most importantly a positive attitude even when things weren't going so well along the way. I'm so glad this was Zack's introduction to the sport I love. Go Braves!

Got my craft on today

We had two little girls in the house today so I went a little wild with the crafting. We painted and played with buttons, and even planted lavender in sweet little pots we painted. So fun!

4th of July

Our fourth was a hot one, high 90s all day.
The boys participated in their first parade. I wasn't bright enough to just wait at the end of the parade route with the other moms, so I ended up walking too.
Grilled lunch and Oma(grandma) came for dinner. Burgers, digs, wings, watermelon, corn on the cob. My husband grills the wings and they are the best!
Friends came with their nieces for the fireworks, and brought shortcake, yum!
We watched from the front yard, we're lucky like that, while the kiddos played with snaps and sparklers.
It was a full and happy day.
