Weekending

I'd like to say this weekend is being spent leisurely strolling farm markets and admiring the turning leaves and snuggling in blankets with mugs if cider. Alas we are neck deep in selling scout popcorn and going to the boys' soccer games. The weather is fine, though, and its only a few weeks until we get to be free people again. Happy weekend to you!

31 Days of Cleaning Small Spaces.

Greetings all!  I am casting aside my lazy blogging and photography from my iPad and iPhone to bring you a fall project:  31 Days of Cleaning Small Spaces!  I'm joining The Nester in her annual 31 days of writing on one topic project.  Originally I wanted to do something really out there and meaningful and ambitious.  I've spent some time offline reflecting on things, and what I realize I need most in life is discipline.  And what I need around the house is a little order.  But, like everyone, I'm busy.  I'm volunteering at school.  I'm a cubscout den leader.  I've got two kids to pay attention to.  But I also have an hour a day to do a small project and write about it.  And I very badly need to clear my spaces so that I can be creative again.

The kinds of things I will be cleaning, purging and organizing are all small spaces that can be taken care of in an hour or less.  The pantry. The fridge.  Under the sink.  A bookshelf.  A whatnot basket.  A junk drawer.  It's breaking the elephant up into bite size pieces.  My track record of actually keeping up with stuff like this is not so great.  Hopefully I can get a head start this weekend to make a day or two buffer for myself.  At the very least, I will post as often as I can with updates!

A bloggy friend at The Domestic Fringe led me to this whole idea.  Be sure to check her out this month. She's also hosting a Pinterest Party in November, love that:

Wish me luck!

Welcome autumn

A great kickoff to fall today at a metro park with the scouts. My older son worked on his forester badge while I enjoyed the scenery.

We took the kids to a rock concert

We saw Rush.
Totally worth it.
I'm glad our kids get into interesting music.

Right now

Right Now I'm...

Relishing the cooler weather and dramatic skies.
Enjoying morning walks with my friend Erin.
Contemplating doing the Nester's 31 days of Change.
Sipping a pumpkin latte (skim, no whip, 1/2 a pump of flavoring.)
Cooking foods inspired by Oktoberfest: sausages, schnitzel, kraut.
Reading The Kingmaker's Daughter by Philippa Gregory.
Reading to the kids The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling.
 Wearing my favorite cardigan sweaters!
Volunteering at the kids' school, a lot.
Working hard on ideas for the cubscout den.
Finishing up my redecorating project on our downstairs office.
Listening to my RUSH CDs, getting ready for a concert!
Lingering over weekday breakfasts with friends.
Pestering boys to put backpacks away, practice drums and do homework.
Savoring more moments instead of photographing them.
Noticing how big my boys are getting.
Finding inspiration everywhere I turn.

Anniversary Weekend

Linking with Amanda's weekending

Thanks to my wonderful brother in law, Ken and I were able to have a long weekend away. We didn't go far...decided to return to my old haunt, the Short North. It's an arts district in Columbus, somewhere to get fantastic foods, unique shopping and fantastic people watching. We spent a lot of our courtship in this area so it was fun to see how things had changed in ten years. If you go, some awesome eats can be found at the Elevator, Knead, and Bodega. We also noshed on some Jeni's ice cream (i had sweet corn black raspberry, yummo) and shopped the North Market. We stayed at a trendy hotel called The Lofts. And we found some great antiques places though surprisingly we were content with window shopping. It was just nice to be together on our own for a whole weekend. And it was fun to explore our city like travelers.

::Drinking coffee.
::Prepping for our 10th anniversary, which is tomorrow.

Zoo trip

Fun trip today, wrapping up truly the easiest, nicest weekend of the summer. Overwhelmed by how big the boys are and how long it's been sin d we have done this!

Creekside

After apple picking we all went to Gahanna for dinner and wandering around Creekside. It is beautiful and well planned, and sadly empty. Ohioans aren't ready to spend that kind of money on a condo, especially when there are so many options all around town. Dinner was good, and we had cupcakes from a shop we were told was featured on the Food Network. The walk was spectacular and surprising: we happened upon a field buzzing with more hummingbirds than ive ever seen! Before leaving, Nathan took our photo on the square. Hopefully Creekside will catch on; it's really a lovely little corner of town.

Apples

Went apple picking! I have been craving apples for a while. This summer we've had robs if blackberries, peaches, and watermelon from the CSA, but now I'm glad the apple crop is starting. I hope it's a harbinger if cooler weather!
