Tomato fantastic

Sometimes just when you think your garden is not going great you realize it's awesome.

Weekending

Linking with Amanda

Spent much of my weekend curled up with the new Philippa Gregory novel.
Husband cooked chicken on the grill, and made Capresi Salad with garden tomatoes.
The big adventure was Stream Quality Monitoring at the Big Darby Creek with the Cub Scouts.
We caught, identified, counted, and released a host of larvae and creatures.
Aside from being fun, this helps the Ohio Dept. of Natural Resources to monitor the water quality.
And the quality was rated "excellent" based on the number and type of creatures we found.

Day camp

I love camp.
Always have.
So glad my Cub Scout likes having me along for the ride.
Glad and a little sad to be home.

When you have to say uncle...a camping trip

A few shots from our soggy weekend camping trip.
In between the rain we got a hike in.
Plus we visited the nature centered and tie-dyed shirts.
Made our first Dutch oven meals (taco meat and Train Wreck.)
And had two good campfires.
But it was just so wet.
So we came home early.
I felt sad.
Like no one was having any fun.
Maybe it was just me.

Zen question from my son

The other day, Nathan asks me the craziest question:
"Mom, what should I be doing right now?"
My off hand response is normally go clean your room.
But there was an urgency to his voice, a note of worry.
Angst at age seven?
The more I thought on that question,
the more I realized that is the very question I ask myself.
Over and over.
What should I be doing right now?
Lately the "right now" has been filled with a lot of nothing.
Surfing and posting and complaining about friends' posts on Facebook.
And a lot of chores, with little in the way of accomplishment.
Like everyone I have this project list.
But writing lists makes me crazy, I want to do!
But do what?
It feels like my path is no longer as clear as it once was.
Old goals have dried up and lost meaning.
New things tickle my imagination.
Time to just dive in I guess.
The other day I did whatever I wanted, and it was good.
I think I should be doing that right now.
And being that it's summer,
I told Nathan:
"Do what is most important to you right now."
I think that was a good answer.

Epic food day

Peach cobbler from this recipe.

Fresh green beans, steamed, salted. I finished them with
a little butter and a sprinkle of sugar---the kids ate them up!

Crock Pot Ribs, from The Stay at Home Chef.

What's cooking at your house?
